Roller derby is a full-contact sport played on quad roller skates. Four blockers from each team try to stop the jammers from passing their hips which is how they score points as they skate around an oval track in periods of 2 minutes called jams. The first person to complete an initial pass of the opposing team’s blockers is called the Lead Jammer. Blockers can use their shoulders and hips to remove the opposition from the track, making the game like a hard-hitting version of rugby on skates with a human ball!
